What Is A Tailors Bunion?

This is similar to a normal bunion on the inside of your foot, except it is located outside at the 5th metatarsal. This happens when that bone enlarges or starts to shift outward. It can cause a great deal of pain when you have tighter shoes or rub against the area.

Causes

There are several reasons that these types of bunions appear. Wearing narrow or high-heeled shoes can make them more prone to appear. It also depends on your foot structure that is passed down as well. Some people are more prone to this type of bunion than others.

Treatments

Once it is diagnosed in the office, there are several ways you can help alleviate the pain. Some choose to use a bunion pad on their foot when wearing shoes to help alleviate pressure and pain. Making sure you wear wider, more flexible shoes can help. Icing and NSAIDs can also help with the pain. However, sometimes you need different methods such as injections of corticosteroids in the office or even surgery in some cases.
